Phyllis Hoffman, this year's recipient of the Exceptional Women in Publishing inspired a standing room only crowd at Folio this year speaking of her life and career.

WIPP’s Exceptional Woman in Publishing Award was presented this year to award-winning businesswoman Phyllis Hoffman, president and chief executive officer of Hoffman Media, LLC. Phyllis has accomplished amazing things in a relatively short time, creating a multi-million dollar publishing company and partnerships with Hearst and other leading magazine publishers; she publishes, among other titles, Cooking with Paula Deen, Southern Lady, Taste of the South, Just CrossStitch, and Sew Beautiful. She is also recognized for her philanthropic activities and her mentoring of those around her.

Women in Periodical Publishing is very pleased to welcome Elaine Fry as the newest member of the WIPP Board. Her experience and knowledge is certain to be of enormous value to Women in Periodical Publishing.

Elaine is Group Director of Manufacturing & Production for Forbes, Forbes Life, Forbes Asia and soon, Forbes Life Executive Woman. Her main goal is to produce quality publications, on schedule and on budget while providing Editorial, Advertising, and Circulation efficient workflows to optimize their businesses. The latest challenge is to integrate the online and print sponsorship buys with a seamless process.

Elaine has over 25 years experience in publishing production, working at The New York Times during and after graduating from Hunter College in New York City. She entered the magazine world with Ziff Davis as Production Editor for Cycle Magazine. She joined Time Inc. in Editorial Operations at Pine Street when that operation was relocated from Chicago, ultimately serving as Time Magazine’s Worldwide Operations Manager.

She and her husband, Michael Lonier, ran their own consulting and prepress business for 12 years after leaving Time, Inc. Some of the key clients were retail giants, Saks and Nordstrom; media clients Time Inc., NBC, Chemical Week, Times Mirror and Hearst. Elaine rejoined the corporate world with Brant Publications as Manufacturing Director and then joining Forbes Media LLC in 2000.

Elaine is the 2006 magazine inductee in The Publishing Executive Hall of Fame and is a current member of the SWOP Board.
