Bay Area Lifestyle Magazine wants CEOWho We Are Headquartered in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, CA., we’re a privately held printed lifestyle magazine that serves the lesbian community. Over the years, our nationally distributed magazine has featured the women who shape our community including Ellen DeGeneres, k.d. lang, Chely Wright, and others. We’ve been named best Gay and Lesbian publication by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), Outstanding Community Partner by the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) and we also took top honors in the category of Best Rock Reporting for our behind-the-scenes profile of Melissa Etheridge. We are the leader in our category and are celebrating our 20th year in business.
Who We’re Looking For Reporting directly to the company founder, you will evaluate the current state of our business and then develop and implement improvements. This will involve the creation of a new business/marketing strategy to address the changing landscape of the media industry. You have experience managing/directing a diverse team of professionals and you believe in mutual respect and teamwork in your work environment. We currently have a close-knit team of eight full-time employees and long-term contractors, as well as a network of regular freelancers. You have been responsible for a department or company budget and have been accountable at the detail level for meeting budgetary goals. Improving the “Bottom Line” will be a primary part of this position so financial savvy and attention to detail are paramount. You posses superior decision making skills and have a high level of analytical ability. You will use this skill to identify business opportunities and will follow them through from inception to implementation. Finally, you have the ability to introduce fresh ideas. You have an eye towards new technologies and a natural desire to grow a company. You have an entrepreneurial spirit and consider yourself an agent of positive change.
Additional Background and Qualifications While we don’t have a strict minimum requirement on years of experience, you will be a seasoned professional with an impressive list of accomplishments. We value quality over quantity. There are no fancy degrees required, but you will be well educated and possess strong business acumen worthy of a CEO title. You are enthusiastic about working in and growing a small, unique company with endless possibilities and potential.

Position for Experienced Ad Sales PersonSelling print and digital integrated packages for high tech magazine. Home based but must be willing to travel and spend significant time face-to-face with clients. Territory is Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico (with a few clients in other Western States). B2B, particularly high tech is preferred. The candidate must not be black and white but instead be able to try new things. They must be comfortable with shades of gray, be flexible, work collaboratively with the sales team and contribute towards the success of the organization.
- Excellent communication skills and advanced knowledge of sales techniques
- Creative and analytic for persuasive verbal and written presentations.
- Good organizational and time management skills. Good at reporting sales progress
- Ability to concentrate on multiple priorities under deadline pressure
