Media+ Women News notes in the February issue that International Women's Day is March 8. The International Federation of Journalists and UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) are asking media outlets in the US and across the world to put women in charge of the news for a week as part of the third annual Women Make the News campaign. This campaign is designed to draw attention to the fact that although the number of women working in the media is substantial, all too few to rise to top positions. The campaign stems from a commitment to promote equal professional opportunities for women everywhere and is essential for a truly informed, balanced and democratic culture.
