Women in Periodical Publishing is seeking an Executive Director to devote the equivalent of one day per week to the organization and management of WIPP activities, including coordination of fundraising efforts. This position has excellent board and administrative support, and is expected to expand to a paid permanent part-time or full-time level within a year. WIPP celebrated its first Editorial WIPP After Hours event in San Francisco recently. Held at the Café du Nord, the event featured Kathryn Arnold, Editor in Chief of Yoga Journal. Arnold spoke about the progress of her own career and how yoga can be beneficial in all areas of work and life.

"Concentration is everything in yoga. As a writer, you already know how to concentrate to get your thoughts in order to write, so you're ahead of the game," Arnold stated. She advised editors to "ask questions" to get a feel for the business of publishing and credits some of her own success as Editor in Chief to her understanding of circulation and advertising as well as writing and editing. Yoga Journal has gone from 90,000 circulation at the start of Arnold's tenure to a circulation of 285,000 today.

Kathryn emphasized the importance in building up an expertise in a particular field. "I don't believe the old adage that a good editor can edit anything. You need to know your subject." Kathryn herself is a lifelong yoga practitioner. Soon she will be moving from her present position of Editor in Chief of Yoga Journal to that of Creative Director, overseeing all the growing ancillary products.

Her advice for finding your next job: "I never received one job from sending out blind resumes," she said. "They all came from relationships I had built."
