It's still not too late to register!
The IPA 2006 Convention will be held January 26-28th in San Francisco. This conference is part of an exciting weekend of events for the publishing industry sponsored by the IPA, PBAA and iMAG!
For the first time, 2006 Convention attendees will experience an additional series of workshops on Thursday afternoon. Each workshop (three in all) either caters to small, medium or large publications with seminars like "From Startup to Sustainability," led by Cheryl Woodard, author of the book Starting and Running a Successful Newsletter or Magazine. For medium-sized publications, direct mail expert David Parker will lead a three-hour seminar on the state of the art of direct mail. For publications of 40,000 circulation or more, the IPA is partnering with the iMAG to offer a round-table discussion titled "Growing Past 50,000 - How the Publishing Model Changes." Representatives from Dwell Magazine and Yoga Journal will be participating.
As in the past, Friday and Saturday will be packed with 32 hands-on sessions on topics of interest to independent periodicals, including "Digital Editions," "Understanding Newsstand Reports," "Building your Advertising Relationships," "Working with Freelancers," and many more. Women in Periodical Publishing (WIPP) will host a workshop called "Leadership Training: How to be the public face for your organization and be a great manager of staff."
A special 10th Anniversary Party on Friday night, January 27th, will feature humorous readings by IPA members plus the nationally-renowned, San Francisco-based, sketch comedy troupe Killing My Lobster (called SF's version of Second City).
Registration is $250 for members, $350 for non-members.
The venue for the convention is San Francisco's Marines Memorial Hotel, located at 609 Sutter Street in San Francisco. For room reservations, which include full American breakfast, free gym access with lap pool, and high-speed internet connection in most rooms, call 1-800-562-7463. Ask for the $119 IPA rate (not including tax).
