ALIX KENNEDY TO BE AWARDED EXCEPTIONAL WOMAN IN PUBLISHING AT WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE - JANUARY 23, 2009
Alexandra Kennedy
Vice President, Editorial Director, FamilyFun and Wondertime Alexandra Kennedy is Vice President, Editorial Director for FamilyFun and Wondertime magazines, part of Disney Publishing Worldwide. Since FamilyFun’ s premier in 1991, she has overseen its award-winning editorial content and design, and has been instrumental in helping the magazine grow to its current circulation of 2 million. Kennedy was appointed editorial director in 1995 to take on an expanded role overseeing FamilyFun brand extensions, including book publishing, online publications, and broadcast efforts.
In 2006, Kennedy conceptualized and developed the launch of Wondertime, a widely-acclaimed new parenting magazine with a focus on child development. (Among its commendations, Wondertime has been the winner of a Folio Award and a nominee for two straight years for a National Magazine Award.)
Kennedy has appeared on national television including Oprah, the Today Show, CNN, PBS, and the CBS Early Show. She is extensively involved in non-profit work and serves on boards or committees for The Fine Arts Center at the University of Massachusetts, the University of Massachusetts English Department Alumni Board, the Points of Light Foundation, and the Sandbox Summit, which is dedicated to exploring the effects of technology on children. In recent years, Kennedy has been the recipient of a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Massachusetts, a Leadership Award from Disney Publishing Worldwide, and the Launch Editor of the Year from MIN magazine.
Prior to joining FamilyFun, Kennedy was Senior Editor for New England Monthly, a publication that won two National Magazine Awards for General Excellence. Kennedy received her B.A. from Colgate University and a Master of Fine Arts in poetry from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she taught writing for three years. She lives in Northampton, Massachusetts, with her husband, the poet James Haug, and their two sons.
